The iPrism Email Filter automatically eliminates spam before it can reach users’ mailboxes, protecting workers from distractions and interruptions. iPrism Email Filter uses a multi-step process to assure the most accurate spam identification.
This entire process takes less than a second to perform:
- The first step is the use of honeypot email accounts to find new spam attacks. Once spam is identified, it is given a fingerprint and added to the master database. With new spam being added globally every second, you get the best defense against emerging spam attacks.
- Once email enters our on-demand data centers, it is fingerprinted and cross-reference in the database to see if there is a match. If there is a match, the message is marked as spam. If there is no match, the message proceeds to the next step.
- This step involves more detailed analysis of email trying to enter your network. A series of tests are performed in which different aspects of the message including the header, subject, and content are analyzed. These tests give the message a score that in turn determines if it is spam. Spam messages are fingerprinted and added to the database. Clean messages are delivered immediately to your mail relay.
The virus filter employed by iPrism Email Filter sends virus definition updates to our Global Gateway every 10 minutes so emerging threats are continually identified and blocked. All e-mail content and attachments are scanned.
Stop Spam and Viruses That Hide in Attachments
This filter is designed to stop spam and viruses that hide in attachments by rejecting messages with certain types of file attachments before they enter your current messaging infrastructure. This feature insures potentially destructive files, such as ".vbs", ".scr", ".exe" and others, do not gain access to your network.
Administrators can easily add or delete file types as well as file names in order to fine-tune the attachment filter. Messages with blocked attachments are sent to the quarantine for administrative review.
Comprehensive Scanning of All Message Parts
By comprehensively scanning all message parts, the content filter gives you the ability to block messages based on words or phrases found in the message subject, message body or any attachments. In addition, you can filter messages based on character sets. Any filtered messages are delivered to quarantine for administrative review.
Email Security Further Enhanced with our Exclusive Policy Filter
Our exclusive policy filter further enhances email security by allowing you to block messages based on message size. Messages that have policy violations are sent to quarantine for administrative review.
iPrism Email Filter allows you to block or allow e-mail messages based on the sender’s domain, sender’s address, or recipient’s address. We offer domain-wide black/white lists at the administrative level as well as the option to let individual users set up their own custom black/white lists. Blacklisted emails are sent to quarantine for administrative or user review.
Custom notifications ensure that you are the first to know if a violation occurs on your network. Via our Global Gateway web console, administrators can customize notifications for each filter. Administrators, senders and recipients can be notified of various filter actions.
Examples of notifications are:
- Inappropriate mail content blocked
- Inappropriate attachment blocked
- Attachment containing virus blocked
- Attachment containing worm blocked
- Attachment over 10 megabytes in size blocked
- Attachment containing *.exe blocked
You need to filter your email, but you also need to control how messages are routed. With iPrism Email Filter, you control your email because you choose how to classify messages and assign action based on that classification.
Here are some examples:
- Allows you to route messages to different Mail Transfer Agents (MTAs) at the group and user level
- Assign actions such as bounce, delete, quarantine or archive messages
- Lets you choose to quarantine at the administrative level or give users that option
- You can deliver to multiple destination MTAs based on multiple load-balancing algorithms
- Allows you to route messages globally before they hit your MTA
With both administrator and user-level quarantines available, email is secured until it is reviewed and either delivered, deleted or archived. You can also add senders to a Whitelist to prevent them from being blocked in the future.
